The laws within NZ are changing. So, what now?
We have no doubt that as an avid vaper you must be concerned or confused about the new regulations surrounding vaping in NZ. But fear not, we are here to clarify and reassure that vaping is not going anywhere.
New Zealand implemented the Smokefree (and vape free) Environments and Regulated Products Amendment Act in November 2020. This law aims to reduce tobacco consumption in New Zealand and therefore tackle smoking related health implications.
After a trial period of 3 years the government has now released recent amendments to this act. Covid has unfortunately allowed the sales of unregulated products such as Chinese disposables to snowball and created a new epidemic of young highly addicted vapers.
The new amendments announced in August 2023 include:
- Work environments, including restaurants and bars, must be smoke and vape-free.
- Approved Vaping Premises must be at least 300m from schools or marae (sacred places).
- Selling vaping or tobacco products to anyone under 18 is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.
- There will be certain changes to these particular products:
- Disposable / Single-Use Devices
- Reusable / Open Devices
- Vape E-Liquids
Let’s dive a little deeper into these changes.
December 21, 2023
nDisposable devices sold within NZ must have the following features:
- A Child Lock (5 clicks on/off)
- Removable battery
March 21, 2024
Reusable/pre-filled pod devices sold must have the following features:
- A Child Lock (5 clicks on/off)
- Removable battery – A Caliburn A3 or Xros 3 is deemed to be compliant already
- Nicotine salts must not exceed 28.5mg/mL
March 21, 2024
E-Liquid flavours must limit flavour descriptions on vaping products and their packages to 1 or 2 flavour names listed in a list on the regulations provided by the government. Labels must also not have Cartoon type characters on them to entice use by children. Click here to view that list.
For Example:
Mixology Vape – Alpha will now be called “Apple” as we cannot use anything other than a description of the actual flavour. But fret not, we will list its former name so you can still find your favourite juice with ease.
The flavours WILL NOT change whatsoever. Just the names.
Will I still be able to purchase pod kits or prefilled pod kits?
The short answer is yes, unless a device is completely non-compliant, we will continue to stock your favourites.
The good news is, device manufacturers are well aware of these changes and are trying their best to accommodate to New Zealand legislation. Any new devices coming in will mostly if not all be compliant.
Don’t worry, you will not miss out! And Mixology will continue to ship your old favourites and all things new as they come to the market, as we have now done for well over a decade – as always, We’ve Got Your Back !
Easy, don’t buy disposables lol
NASTY 5k are soooo sweet.
How can I avoid this in the future?
